Port Vila, Vanuatu

Now that we've been home 3 weeks it seems like a lifetime ago that we were here in the beautiful sunshine of the islands. Take me back!

I'm not sure what I expected Vanuatu would be like, but it wasn't what I imagined.

With it being Sunday we always knew we would go to church and not swim, but apart from that we didn't really know what the day would bring.

Thankfully due to the lovely, kind and generous ways of a man at church, we probably had the best tour of the island that anyone on the ship had!

As soon as we got off the ship there was about 80 men all jostling to get people to use their taxi

As soon as we saw this building, we felt at home even though we were in a completely foreign land

Nevermind that these ladies didn't speak english, Dalls still knows how to ask for chewing gum!

Such a lovely song by the ward members for all of the mothers on Mother's day....and we all got given our own little pieces of cake too

Out on our tour with Brother Charles. He took us up this amazingly steep hill to look out over the harbour. There's famous waterfall off that road but you had to pay to go there

Another chapel at Namba three....Blacksands Ward

The last place we visited was a really luxurious resort where lots of people come to get married

This little boy wanted to have a coconut everywhere we went, but this was as close as he got.....until we got home and Joe bought him a few from pak n save!

How's that for a big mango tree right at the front of the chapel!

Once again, asking a person who doesn't speak english if she has lollies in her handbag!

It worked!

Walking 2km back to the ship cause we thought Brother Charles had forgotten to come back and pick us up

As soon as we jumped into the car, Dalls leaned over and conked out

Vanuatu House of Parliament

A french school where Brother Charles used to be a teacher

This cracked us up....you can kind of get the gist of it even though it's in Bislama. We just walked into this chapel on our tiki-tour. It was totally open even thought no one was there!

The Missionaries have their own little tiny house at the back of the chapel. Nice missionary car we thought...a brand new hilux

The mission home. The Vanuatu mission includes New Caledonia as well but the president lives here

Brother Charles....he probably doesn't know how much we made our day there....will definitely look him up if we ever make it back

The maintenance never stops. There were minions everywhere 24/7 doing things. It's like they never slept. I'd had to oversee that schedule.

We loved Vanuatu. The people are so flippn' welcoming. I do have a feeling we'll get back there sooner or later.
