Sewing Night

Last night Daddy Joe and Ella went to do more Umu prep (the umu that never ends). Sethy went to bed just after 6pm and Faith was watching movies in the lounge so I got my sew on. So satisfying!

Looking a bit squished on the couch, but I'm so happy with how it turned out. The girls have already claimed it as their own even though they know it's really for the baby.

Now the baby should be able to sleep a little more undisturbed with it's very own carseat cover that won't fly up or fall off all the time
My next 2 projects sometime hopefully in the near future are...

The girls would love these for watching movies in the lounge and there's no sewing involved (bonus). Will just have to wait until polar fleece is on a really good special or they'll be really expensive. Actually they could help me make them too which would be cool



And for the longest time I've wanted to do cushion covers. I've got 8 inners waiting to have nice covers. Just waiting on cheap material now.

Panfritters?

On sunday afternoon we got home from church and had no dinner planned let alone made. Since we started 1 o'clock church I've mastered the art of a roast chicken dinner with a bit of planning and cooking before we leave at 12:30pm. But after getting back from Hamilton on Saturday night and realising I had a chicken but not potatoes I knew it wouldn't work. At that point I should have thought of plan B but I shoved it to the back of my head and hoped it would go away...like the family would just be ok with no dinner that night?!?!?

Unfortunately that wasn't the case and everyone, especially Faith came home from church really hungry. I tried to distract her while I thought of what I could whip up. The best I could do was cheese and pesto toasties. Usually they're not a hit in our house but everyone must have been so famished that they were asking for more once I'd started packing it all up.

I didn't really feel like them so I told Daddy Joe I'd wait till the kids were in bed and think of an 'adults' dinner. It also took me a while to think of what that would be, but eventually I settled on asking him to make us pancakes (with golden syrup, cream and peaches....yum!)

Turns out he's not a pancake pro and they were more like what I would call panfritters (because he thought they were sticking with butter in the pan so he cooked them in oil instead!)

We both had a good laugh and I suggested he have a lesson or 2 from Uncle Jonathon who makes the best homemade pancakes I've ever had.

I know our kitchen's a bit of a disaster but seriously, it never looks like this when I'm cooking!

Deconstructed Mince Pitas...LOVE!

This is one of our fav dinners (well mine at least). The girls each have their own special requests when I make it so they're not actually eating the real thing, but oh well, I love it.

Faith=Pita chips, mince, cheese, yoghurt

Ella=Pita Chips, cheese, tomato sauce!

Cut up pitas into little pieces and grill with some garlic butter

Cucumber, tomatoes (sometimes I shred lettuce for this bit as well. Could have carrots, capsicum etc added)

Mince with loads of oregano

Crispy garlic pita chips :)

Pile up on a plate kinda mix together with a fork. I'm in love with this dinner. Could have it a few times a week easy

Summerland Home Learning Challenges for Year 1 students

Homework at Summerland is basically a reader, and a little writing and maths practice every afternoon. On top of that there's something called home learning challenges. When I saw this sheet as a reliever last year I was super excited to do some of the projects with Faith. The whole set up reminds me of personal progress or the old RS pursuit of Excellence which are right up my alley.

When the sheet came home this week I got straight to work highlighting some things we might work on together. Our first one is going to be presenting to her class about the helping hands project that she did a couple of weeks ago for church. She'll have to hand in this write-up and talk about it in front of the class. I'm excited about that but she's not!

Stuff Lately x 4

Faith has to do spelling tests with me every afternoon. She moans through it but loves to see the score at the end

I ummed and ahhed about attempting a family photo when the form came home from school. Still not sure if it was worth it, but either way I'm glad we tried. The girls behaved great but Seth on the other hand will either have a straight face or a grumpy, crying face I think.

We had to drop the car off for a service one morning last week. The girls were at school/kindy and I walked down to labtests for the 1 hour glucose test. That left the boys needing something to do for the 2.5 hours while we waited to be able to go back to the car. When I got back to them after about 1 1/4 hours, they'd spent that whole time walking around the warehouse! Just after that Daddy Joe decided to run home and get his truck so we didn't have to wait anymore (don't know why we didn't take 2 cars in the first place!!!!)

All the kids are good movie watchers. Lately Seth loves getting set up on our bed with Shrek and a bankie (blanket)...his fave!

Ella's more often than not got a baby (toy) under her t-shirt or dress. I couldn't believe it when I went in to her room on my way to bed to find this. She'd stuffed a packet of nappies down her ballet costume and was fast asleep!

Asleep with her flash new shoes from Aunty Natty (like mother like daughter!)

Aunty Natty got the girls cool Sketcher's shoes when she went to Sydney and it's prompted many a shoe tying lessons

Seffy's a pro on this little bike, much better than either of the girls ever were (granted Faith didn't get on it much with living in the flat). He whizzes over to the dairy no sweat and knows when to stop at the roads and where to turn for our street and driveway....smart little cookie

A bit of afternoon water play.....

I saw an idea on pinterest of adding coloured ice-cubes to the bath. Won't add the nudey pictures of how much they enjoyed it but it was pretty fun for all 3 of them

On Sunday morning Ella got a little telling off so she had to go to her room. When I went down to her she was cuddled up on Faith's bed and said she wanted to have a sleep. I didn't think it would last, but she really meant it. At 9:30am on a sunday morning she had a full on 2 hour sleep!
