Sing-a-long times

We sing quite often round here, sometimes cause we're happy, sometimes cause we're grumpy and trying to be happy and sometimes just because.

Each week in FHE we start with a 'church song' and then move on to 'fun songs'. Here's our usuals at the moment.

Church Songs
I love to see the temple
Book of Mormon Stories
Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam
I belong to the Church
I am a Child of God
Primary Colours

Fun Songs
Taniwha song
Rumble down the track
Popcorn Popping
Copy me
Old McDonald
Little Turtle
Miss Polly
The Wheels on the Bus

I love hearing the kids join in with singing or start it up themselves at random times. Hearing them sing along to the radio is super cute cause their words are all wrong but they really get into it, especially Ella. She loves 'Justa be a reason' by Pink, 'Justas amazin' which translates to Empire State of Mind by Alicia Keys. Right now her fave artist is 'Aunty Sarah' aka Demi Lovato!

This week Faith's primary class is singing in Sacrament and I'm so excited/nervous for her. I just hope she does it cause I know she's anxious about it already, not because she doesn't know it but because she's shy to stand up in front of everyone. My heart starts racing just thinking about my little girl singing in front of a whole congregation!!!! We've sung this song to each of the kids before bedtime since they were born, and they've joined in when they're old enough, which for Faith has been a while now. Hopefully she'll just be able to imagine she's singing with Mum or Dad in her room about to get into bed, not in front of about 200 people at the pulpit!

The girls love dressing up

Both of the girls really love dressing up, in any shape or form.

Last week we popped over to the Christy's house and within 2 minutes Ella was running around the house in her undies, followed by a cute little mermaid costume
Faith loves this costume of Jordy's and a similar one of the Incredibles at Riyan's house. I think she's going for a Buzz Lightyear/Pirate combo here
With this safety gear on she walked around acting all rough and tough, a real little tomboy
I've been thinking lately that it would be cool if we accumulated some costumes over time because I'm pretty sure they'd get a lot of use. Yesterday at Spotlight, I found the girls enjoying themselves in the dress up section

Ella called this the 'bad bones face'

Faith made me go back and see that this is the one she picked as her favourite. I'm sure her Dad would be chuffed with that choice. When she was begging me to go back and have a look at something 'really special' I kept telling her I was in a hurry and we had to go. But she almost started crying and I could tell she desperately wanted me to see something that meant a lot to her. I wasn't really in a hurry, I just couldn't be bothered. I'm so glad I went back and showed her that I cared about it, cause she was so excited to have my attention and tell me all about it.
And Ella was choosing between Spiderman and Superman

When she asked if we could get one, I did my usual 'well, they're really cool and I know you'd love to have one, so why don't we ask the birthday fairy and she might choose one for you' As I was telling her that, I was thinking about how costumes are usually quite expensive so how would the birthday fairy manage getting her one?!?!?

Thankfully just then I looked down and saw boxes of random things already reduced that were a further 50% off.....and there were costumes in there! Yay!
I ended up getting a Dog, nurse, cowboy and Transformers costumes. They were $30-$50 down to between $5 and $15. They're not overly flash ones, but they'll do the job. They saw me buying them and I said the birthday fairy would come and take them during the night and if she liked them she'd bring them back to our house for their birthdays. They've already forgotten about them so it should be a cool surprise when they re-appear sometime soon.

I'm excited about seeing them do more imaginative play together as they get into costume and play different characters. It's funny and cute to watch and I'm hoping it'll occupy their attention for a good stretch of time!

Frames, Frames and more Frames

After clearing out at Grandies, I came home with about 30 photo frames. Some new, some used. All totally good for re-purposing or selling.

On Monday afternoon I set myself up at the table while the girls were at kindy and Seth was having a sleep. Perfect!

I decided to do a couple of chalkboards, and paint pink frames for the girls 'birth details' to go in their room.

This was most of them, but there was still about 5 that I didn't get out of the garage for this pic cause they were big ones behind other heavy things....some of them were even brand new still wrapped in plastic

The most eagerly anticipated movie date in history

For the last month, Faith has wanted to go to the movies. Actually, that's not exactly true. She always wants to go to the movies, but for the past month, she's wanted to go and see Monster's University. She said she'd go to that one at the movies and see Despicable Me 2 on DVD. I thought that was a great plan until last week when her bedtime behaviour deteriorated to a point where she was told she couldn't go to see Monster's University at the movies anymore.

I thought that would tip her over the edge (actually that had probably happened long before when she'd been screaming on the doorstep and throwing shoes at it in the dark!). But surprisingly she took it quite well. When I finally put her in bed I asked how she felt about losing the privilege to go to the movies. She said it was ok, cause she'd lost that one, but now she'd change to seeing Despicable Me 2 at the movies instead. Fairplay I thought. Good idea......until about 3 nights later when she lost that as well.

She cried and cried about it like I've never seen her cry before. It was like she was really disappointed with herself, not hysterical, but really sad. I was so pleased that she knew why it had come to that and she accepted that it was over for that movie too. I told her that within the next week we'd try one more time to work towards a movie date.

And Tuesday was that night night.....Me, Faith and Ella left the boys at home and went out on a movie date! We were supposed to be going to 'Epic' because they've lost the other 2, but I pulled some strings and let us go to Despicable Me 2 afterall cause that's the one I want to see!!!

Faith had been insisting that I buy her a special Michael Jackson costume to wear to the movie. I'm not sure why she thinks she has to wear a costume, and I'm not sure why she chose Michael Jackson?!?!?! In the end we didn't go with the costume idea, just plain old jeans and tops and massive smiles!!!!

These lasted up until about the last 5 mins of the movie

Ella had 3 little rolls of mentos in about 3 minutes and then kept asking for more!

The movie was due to start at 6:40 and we ran into the foyer at 6:49 to see this line. I didn't know what to do. If we waited in line we'd probably be 1/2 an hour late into the theatre, if I walked straight up to the counter I'd look like a real diva thinking I'm so important that I can push in front of everyone.....what did I do?    Diva, and it worked a treat, except that once I turned around from the counter and walked back past everyone I couldn't make contact with anyone in case they were hating my guts!

Doing a little jig through the closing credits. She LOVED it. And watching the trailer on the internet so many times meant she could tell me what was coming up in the movie before it happened. A little bit annoying, but it did prove to me that she is able to follow a storyline on her own

Straight back down to Timezone

Good old Selfie cause the girls were too busy pretending to ride motorbike game things

Why do they still ask me for money on these rides? Haven't they learnt yet that Mummy ALWAYS says 'No'

One last fun little thing for the night, play around on the security guys golf buggy thing
Such a fun night! I think it was Ella's first movie and she did great. Maybe it's cause she thinks minions are really funny (and they are).

Shopping with little people....argh!!!!

When I go shopping more often than not I have 2 children with me. I try to make sure I don't have 3, it's a bonus if I have one, and a dream if I have none! Just being honest, I'd rather not shop in any shape or form with my children cause they wander off, ask for everything their eyes see, whinge that they're tired, cry, need to go to the toilet, put random things in the trolley.....the list goes on...

Seffy's the best to go with cause he can't play up too much, but on the other hand I can't bribe him with a treat at the end which sometimes works with the girls.

Last week I went to Kmart to look for one thing, a compost bin for the kitchen
The girls love emptying it into the outside compost bin, a very age appropriate job for them, but I'm sure the novelty will wear off. Right now they are soooo excited to be asked to do it!

So, that's what we went to the shops for, and this is what Ella collected.... (she got two of each thing which was sweet, but they all got put back nonetheless)

Seffy just came along for the ride and every so often he shouted out 'Dadadadadadada' and 'Mamamamamama'
